Milledgeville JC Penney employees charged in theft operation
Milledgeville GA June 16 2017
Arrest warrants have been issued for four JCPenney employees in regard to a theft of store merchandise.
April Corbin, Lisa Baxley and Teamber Rapier, of Milledgeville, and Alexis Duncan of Eatonton, have been named as suspects in the case after an alleged theft operation netted the employees and an accomplice several thousand dollar’s worth of merchandise.
The theft, which comes as the store prepares to close its doors to the public next month, was reported by a JCPenney loss prevention employee.
According to a report filed June 2 by Milledgeville Police Officer Scott Rogers, the loss prevention employee said he had been reviewing the store’s security camera footage when he noticed four workers secretly bagging items and carrying them out of the store.
Upon discovering the apparent series of thefts, which had taken place over several days, the employee approached Corbin about the theft. He secured a written statement from Corbin in which she admitted to using her cash register login number to help steal $5,500 worth of merchandise, according to the police report. She was detained in a store office while dispatchers were called to request that an officer come to the store.
When Rogers arrived at the scene minutes later, he was shown footage of the employees bagging items without paying. While Duncan and Rapier are alleged to have made off with $75 and $144 worth of merchandise after ringing up $5 and $6 purchases, respectively, it was estimated that Baxley and Corbin had conspired to bag about $4,800 worth of items, according to the police report. The employees are also believed to have bagged about $4,000 worth of items for a person who did not work at the store, but as of presstime Wednesday, there was not enough information about the subject for a warrant to be issued.
After reviewing the security footage of the alleged thefts, Rogers obtained warrants for the four employees on charges of shoplifting and turned the case over to MPD detective Christopher Quattrocchi. The warrants were also delivered to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s.
