NC mall security officer helps police stop burglary
Goldsboro NC July 4 2018
A suspect is accused of hiding in the Goldsboro mall and then trying to steal from a jewelry vendor.
Officers from the Goldsboro Police Department responded to the Berkeley Mall just before 10 PM Sunday night.
A mall security officer watching the surveillance cameras had noticed a person dressed entirely in black walking down a mall hallway.
Officers arrived and located the suspect, 21-year-old Anthony D. Martin of Goldsboro, hiding near dumpsters near a mall entrance.
As officers investigated and reviewed the surveillance footage, it was determined Martin had hid in the mall after closing, and then came out of his hiding spot and attempted to break into a jewelry kiosk.
Once the kiosk’s alarm was triggered, Martin fled and exited the building.
No damage was done and no property was stolen during the incident.
Martin was arrested and charged with Preparation to Commit Burglary and Attempted Breaking and Entering.
He was held at the Wayne County Detention Center under a $4,000 secured bond.
