Panola College Campus Police Chief passes away after heart attack

Panola College Campus Police Chief Bryan Rickert passed away on Saturday, April 21. Chief Rickert had suffered a heart attack and undergone surgery, but had been released from the hospital and was looking forward to returning to work.
Dr. Gregory Powell, Panola College President, extended his condolences to the family and said, “Chief Rickert will be greatly missed by his Panola College family. He always had a welcoming smile and was truly dedicated to serving and protecting his colleagues and students at Panola College.”
Obituary – Bryan Allen Rickert
Bryan Allen Rickert, 57, of Carthage, passed away on Saturday night, April 21, 2018, in Shreveport. He was born on Nov. 13, 1960, in Chester, PA to the late Bruce Anthony and Rebecca Ann Bryan Rickert. He attended Carthage schools. Bryan worked for many years as the City of Carthage Fire Marshal. He later worked as a salesman for Pierce Fire Trucks and as a policeman for the City of Waskom. Bryan was currently serving as Chief of Police for Panola College and was a member of the Carthage Volunteer Fire Dept. He served as past-president of the Northeast Texas FFMA. He moved to Carthage in 1970, from Bradenton, FL. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Carthage; son, Bryce Rickert of Galveston; step-children, Jake Irion of Maryland, Taylor Irion of Arlington, and Valerie McLaughlin and husband Mark Patrick of Carthage; brother, Curtis Rickert and wife Cindy of Bossier City; sister, Debbie Lauth and husband Danny of Newport, TN; twin-sister, Nancy Daugereau and husband Greg of Carthage; aunts, Opal Edgar and Garnetta Davidson both of Pensacola, FL; and grandchildren, Carson, Kaitlyn, and Kadence.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Otto officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park near Carthage. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers are Curtis Rickert, Greg Daugereau, Danny Lauth, Greg Rickert, Steven Rickert, Jake Irion, and Taylor Irion.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are the members of the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department.
