1 arrested, 1 more wanted after Carowinds security officer assaulted by mob
Rock Hill S.C. August 13 2023 A man accused of assaulting a security officer as part of a mob at Carowinds Amusement Park has been arrested, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies are still trying to track at least one more suspect down.
Noah Calvin Rich IV was taken into custody Friday, deputies said around noon. They are still looking for D’Laysia Kanizee Watson.
Both were wanted for assault and battery by a mob.
The charges are connected to an incident at Carowinds on Monday. The two are accused of being part of a mob that attacked an unarmed security officer.
Deputies said it all started when someone tried to get on the Intimidator roller coaster with no shirt. When employees asked him to leave the ride, they said he became irate.
Deputies said the situation escalated and a security officer eventually tried to escort the man, Dejon Watson, out of the park. But they said a group of Watson’s friends and family members surrounded the security officer and some of them attacked him.
Investigators said at one point, the security officer was knocked to the ground and kicked and punched multiple times by that group of people and sustained numerous injuries.
York County deputies were called and eventually arrested Dejon Watson and a 17-year-old. Noah Rich was arrested Friday, but they are still searching for D’Laysia Watson.
Carowinds released a statement Thursday that read, in part; “Carowinds upholds a zero-tolerance policy towards any conduct that jeopardizes our guests’ and associates’ safety and well-being. We take such incidents seriously and are committed to ensuring that Carowinds remains a safe and enjoyable environment.”
The park has worked recently to overcome violence by young people there by implementing a chaperone policy this spring.
There sheriff’s department did not reveal how many people attacked the security officer or how many others will be charged in the assault.
