1 security guard dead, 1 injured in Berks County shooting
NEW MORGAN, Pa. August 8 2022— A security officer was killed and another one was wounded during a shooting at a business in Berks County, according to police.
Investigators said the shooting happened shortly after midnight Saturday morning in the 200 block of Quarry Road in New Morgan Borough.
According to Berks County District Attorney John Adams, the victims were contracted employees doing security for the Morgan Corporation, a manufacturer of truck bodies.
“They observed a suspicious vehicle in the area near Quarry Road,” said Adams.
He said when the security officers approached the vehicle, they were met with gunfire.
A 37-year-old security officer was killed.
“The other security officer, his wound is somewhat superficial and he has already been discharged from the hospital,” said Adams.
Authorities said they do not yet know why the car was there or how many people may have been inside of it.
Police investigators have not yet determined if there was more than one shooter.
“You know this is an area of our county which is very rural and you know typically we have little criminal activity in New Morgan Borough,” said Adams.
