2 Injured in stabbing at Jersey City JC Penney
Jersey City NJ Feb 12 2018 Jersey City police are investigating an apparent stabbing at Newport Centre mall that sent two people to the hospital Saturday night.
Shoppers interviewed by television news crews Saturday evening said a fight apparently broke out in the bedding department of the J.C. Penney store. Blood stains could be seen on the floor after the altercation, which occurred around 7:30 p.m.
Police said the injuries suffered were not life-threatening.
Mall officials could not immediately be reached for comment. The security office at the mall referred questions to the mall’s marketing office.
The news is another round of bad publicity for the mall, which has been the subject of at least two viral videos showing fights at the shopping center, which is owned by Simon Property Group. In 2016, videos showed the mall Easter Bunny fighting with a parent in March, and a December video showed a brawl involving Christmas shoppers.
The 30-year-old mall on the Jersey City waterfront is located near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.
