2 NJ corrections employees dead in apparent murder-suicide
BRIDGETON NJ Sept 12 2017 — Bridgeton police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide Saturday night involving two Department of Corrections employees, authorities said.
A spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Corrections Monday identified the victims as 45-year-old Stephanie Meyer and 43-year-old Joseph Williams.
Meyer worked as a senior corrections officer at Bayside State Prison and Williams was a senior investigator at Southern State Correctional Facility. Both facilities are in Cumberland County.
Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari Sr. said police were called to a house on Hopewell Road around 10 p.m. Saturday after family and friends had not heard from Meyer.
Officials say they found Williams and Meyer dead in the basement from gunshot wounds.
Gaimari said early findings from the investigation point to a murder-suicide.
Bridgeton police are still investigating the incident and did not release any further details Monday morning.
