2 NYC school safety agents charged with assaulting their children
Queens NY November 15 2019
A pair of veteran school safety agents were arrested for allegedly assaulting their own children in separate incidents Tuesday night, police said.
Dewithe Ashley, 46, was busted around 10:30 p.m. at his Queens Village home for smacking his 17-year-old daughter after she allegedly attacked him, according to police sources and court records.
Ashley, a 13-year veteran of the NYPD, had just asked his daughter to do her homework when she grabbed him, the records say.
The two began to tussle, and the daughter attempted to punch her dad, so he smacked her in the head, the court papers say.
Ashley was later arrested and charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
About 30 minutes after that incident, Mario Webster, 34, a nine-year veteran of the force, was nabbed for allegedly hitting his 6-year-old daughter with a belt at their home in Crown Heights, sources said.
The girl’s grandfather was home and called the police, sources added.
She was taken to the hospital with bruises and pain.
A relative at Webster’s home downplayed the alleged altercation.
“Everyone’s fine… it’s not a big thing,” the woman said, refusing to identify herself.
Webster was charged with assault, acting in a manner injurious to a child and criminal possession of a weapon.
Both of the agents were suspended without pay.
The NYPD didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
