2 Security officers shot during robbery at Shoprite Usave supermarket in South Africa
JOHANNESBURG S.A. May 9 2017– Two security guards have been shot and wounded during a robbery outside a Shoprite Usave supermarket in Sebokeng.
Paramedics say a group of men opened fire on the guards while they were moving cash boxes between the shop and the armoured vehicle on Monday.
Both were treated at the scene and taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care.
Netcare 911’s Nicholas Dollman said: “The first man was shot in the groin and medication was administered to the victim to reduce to amount of pain he was experiencing. The second guard sustained minor injuries and had a graze wound to his leg.”
Last week a security guard was also shot and wounded during the robbery and hostage drama at the Nyanga Junction Shopping Centre in Cape Town.
Patrick Castle later died in hospital, while a suspected robber was shot dead.
