FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. October 4 2021 The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting at Seventy-First High School late Friday night.
It happened just before 10 p.m. at 6830 Raeford Road. The gunfire erupted just after the football game.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 19-year-old and 18-year-old were shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff Ennis Wright said the sheriff’s office towed a red Ford Focus with a bullet hole in the front passenger side door from the Seventy-First Middle School parking lot.
Cumberland County Schools Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. said there will be additional security at schools in the Seventy-First area Monday morning as a precaution.
Across the district, we make every effort to keep our students and staff safe. We have security plans in place that are specific to each school, we review safety procedures with students and staff, and we work in collaboration with local law enforcement to maintain a safe learning environment,” Dr. Connelly said in a statement. “We will continue to be vigilant about campus security and invite families to assist us by encouraging their students to tell an adult if they see something wrong.”

A similar scene played out at a high school football game in Indianapolis Friday night. Gunshots outside the stadium sent players and coaches bolting for the locker room in the middle of the game. All of it was caught on broadcast footage obtained by ABC News.
After a player gets tackled, at least six gunshots can be heard on the broadcast, causing players, coaches, and fans to immediately start running.
“Unfortunately, folks, that was gunshots,” said one of the announcers, who was calling the game for ISC Sports Network.
The game involved Carmel High School and Ben Davis High School. Ben Davis was hosting.
In a press release Saturday morning, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police said that one person, a juvenile male, sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Officers detained several individuals believed to be involved in the incident before arresting one, an 18-year-old male, for aggravated battery.
