PAGELAND, S.C. Dec 8 2017 — Two students have been charged after officials say they discovered a planned school shooting that threatened fellow students on social media.

Several deputies will be at Central High School in Pageland Thursday, the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 14-yearold boy and a 16-year-old girl have been charged with communicating threats. The students were taken into custody Wednesday night after school officials learned of a planned shooting.

The students created a social media account and sent threatening messages to other students, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.  One of the messages said, “Ima shoot up that school tomorrow.”

NBC Charlotte learned another threat pinpointed names of students who would be targeted Thursday.

With Pageland being a fairly small community, just a little over 600 students attend Central High School, the threat quickly spread on social media causing an uproar in the community.

Deputies were able to track down the student behind the threat.

A parent saw her son’ s name on the alleged hit list and immediately called police.  She says she is keeping him from attending school Thursday.

“As a parent I don’t feel safe and I don’t care if I get in trouble for keeping him home for missing school,” Vanessa Jones said.  “I’m not going to send my kid into a school where he’s not safe. He isn’t safe.”

Central High School is operating on a regular schedule Thursday morning.
