3 Killed, 3 others shot including nightclub security guard
MCCOMB, Miss. October 21 2021
Alicia Brown, one of the three people killed in a Jackson nightclub shooting, left behind an 8-month-old son and a 6-year-old daughter.
Brown, 24, of McComb; Elijah Bridges, 22, of Vicksburg; and Deanne Bell were killed in the shooting early Sunday at Club Rain on Medgar Evers Boulevard.
Three other people, including a security guard, were also injured, p
olice said.
Connie Brown said she will now raise her daughter’s two children.
Brown said her daughter had a positive influence on people young and old.
She believes Alicia gave in to peer pressure and came to the nightclub where she was gunned down after they left the Jackson State University homecoming game.
“Usually when I see her about to go to a game, she’s prepped and ready to go,” Connie Brown said.
She said her daughter didn’t seem excited as she prepared to drive from McComb to Jackson for Saturday’s game.
“No real jubilation. You know? It was just getting ready. She seemed like she really didn’t want to go, that’s why I say there’s an influence factor,” Connie Brown said. “I know my daughter, more than likely, somebody kind of talked her into, you know, ‘Let’s go over here. Let’s go there.'”
According to her mom, Alicia was ambitious and a go-getter. She was studying cosmetology at Southwest Mississippi Community College and planned to own her own business one day. Connie Brown said everyone who knew her daughter is heartbroken at what happened to her.
“They can’t believe it and they’re saying she didn’t deserve this. She was a nice girl. She was a good person,” Connie Brown said.
She has a message for the person who took her only child’s life.
“What you killed was somebody’s dream, and what you killed perhaps was your own bridge to success. So, when you killed my daughter, just maybe you killed your own dream,” she said.
Jackson police are actively searching for suspect Jeremy Jones in connection with the shooting.
