3 suspects arrested following shooting of San Antonio security officer
SAN ANTONIO TX June 19 2020 – Two men and one woman have been identified as the suspects in a shooting that hospitalized one person over the weekend.
Derek Medina, 21, Kaley Medina, 23, and Daniel Serna, 37, are facing aggravated assault charges following the shooting that happened around 1:20 a.m. Sunday outside the Monte Carlo Club in the 2800 block of NW Loop 410.
Police said the suspects were trying to get into the club but were denied access because they were heavily intoxicated.
That’s when officers said the suspects got into their vehicle, drove around the front of the club and fired several gunshots toward the front door, hitting a man standing outside.
A security officer was struck in his back and taken to University Hospital in stable condition, authorities said.
After the suspects attempted to flee the scene, they hit a curb in their vehicle and blew out the back tire, according to police.
Police said the driver kept going down Vance Jackson on the rim of the tire until police caught up with them at a shopping center on Wurzbach.
Derek Medina threw a 9mm pistol outside the car, police said. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a security officer, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of tampering with evidence, booking records show.
Serna and Kaley Medina were each charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a security officer and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, booking records show.
This was the second shooting outside a San Antonio bar over the weekend. On Friday night, a man opened fire in the parking lot of REBAR, a bar in the 8000 block of Broadway. Eight people were hospitalized but are expected to survive.
The alleged gunman in that shooting remains at large.
