3-year-old Birmingham boy dead from apparent accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound
Birmingham AL July 1 2023 A 3-year-old boy died early Friday when authorities believe he accidentally shot himself in the head.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the boy as Kayden Goldman.
Birmingham 911 received call at 12:55 a.m. reporting that a child had been shot. The location was an apartment in the 2600 block of Tempest Drive S.W.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service transported the boy to Children’s of Alabama where he was pronounced dead at 1:55 a.m.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the child was in the care of an adult and was in a room by himself. It appears he got a hold of a gun and accidentally shot himself.
Birmingham police are investigating.
Kayden’s mother, Adreanna Jones, said she is devastated by his death. She described Kayden as smart and intelligent.
“He loved the idea that when he was old enough that he wanted to play soccer,’’ she said. “He liked going to the park and had a crazy obsession for dinosaurs.”
Jones said Kayden was a great big brother to his sister, Kaylee, and an excellent son. He loved fruits and vegetables, and he loved to dance.
“My baby was so independent and he knew exactly what he wanted,’’ Jones said. “He was a good child. No, he was an excellent child. To know him is to love him.”
