33-Year-Old Man Accused In Stabbing Death Of Security Officer
MIAMI, FL March 7 2018 — A 33-year-old Miami man was charged on Monday with the February stabbing death of a security guard outside a local eatery.
Luis G. Hernandez was charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the early morning attack on Juan Carlos Rodriguez in the parking lot of La Orquida.
The restaurant is located at 10827 SW 40 Street.
“The victim, a security guard at the establishment, attempted to escort unruly patrons outside,” explained Detective Lee Cowart of the Miami-Dade Police Department. “The altercation escalated and the subject, Luis Gomez Hernandez, stabbed the victim.”
Cowart said that the stabbing occurred around 2:37 a.m. on Feb. 25, which was a Sunday.
“The victim was determined deceased on the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue,” Cowart explained. “The subject was also injured during the altercation and was subsequently transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel to Kendall Regional Medical Center.”
He added that Hernandez was arrested on Monday after being released from Kendall Regional Medical Center.
Hernandez was booked into the Miami-Dade County Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
