34 security guards at Buffalo Niagara Airport will be laid-off
CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. June 15 2017– Subcontracted security guards at Buffalo-Niagara International Airport have been issued layoff notices according to the Department of Labor.
According to the DOL Warn Notice, 34 security guards employed by Command Security Corporation will be laid-off effective June 30, 2017.
The unarmed security guards provide pedestrian and traffic control at the BNIA terminal for arrivals and departures. They also provided vehicle access control and inspection services at controlled access points at two gates on the airfield leading to the aircraft operations area.
CSC’s three-year contract with the authority, worth $4.7 million, started on July 1, 2012. The authority had the option to renew the contract twice at one-year intervals which they did.
Command Security Corporation was unable to secure a new three-year contract through a request for proposal process. The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority awarded the new contract to U.S. Security Associates, Inc. of Roswell, Georgia. It is worth $4.7 million.
One worker was laid-off at Niagara Falls International Airport.
USSA is an international company that provides security services in 42 states, Mexico and Canada with annual revenues in excess of $1.4 billion. USSA is headquartered in Roswell, Georgia but has operated its Buffalo office in excess of 30 years.
