4 Off-Duty Security Officers Targeted and Murdered in January
CHARLOTTE NC JANUARY 30, 2024
According to law enforcement, three off-duty California private security officers and an Ohio off-duty security officer may have all been targeted and murdered shortly after leaving work this month.
Keith Longwood, a California security guard who often worked at nightclubs and apartment complexes had left work on January 18th, and several hours later was found dead inside his vehicle. Police say that he was shot in the head.
Investigators now believe that his death was related to his work.
A second California security officer was shot and killed in Hawthorne during an altercation outside a restaurant.
Investigators said the 57-year-old Eddie McAllister was shot while he was getting food at Fabulous Burgers, located at 3301 Rosecrans Ave, around 2 a.m. after he got done with work.
His family believes that he was followed to the restaurant from work but they do not know why someone would want to kill him.
His family obtained video from the incident, which shows an unknown man and McAllister arguing before McAllister falls to the ground.
His family says McAllister leaves behind five children and one grandchild.
The investigation is ongoing at this time as authorities search for a motive and a suspect.
A third California security officer identified as Carlos Beltran was killed in Los Angeles.
Beltran, 40, was shot in the head and killed around 1 a.m. Friday. His family isn’t sure why it happened, and neither are police investigators.
His bank card was left behind,” his family said. His phone. The car itself. They did not steal anything from him, they just took his life.
Carlos, the oldest in the family, went by “Chunk.”
His sister, Nataly, says he worked as an overnight security guard, so it was common for him to be up late.
The LAPD hasn’t shared any information on a possible suspect.
In the Dayton Ohio area, Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck recently explained to local reporters why he thinks the shooting of a local security officer who had just left work was targeted.
The off-duty nightclub security guard was shot and killed inside a vehicle early Monday morning.
Around 2:50 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Napoleon’s Palace in the 4100 block of Germantown Pike on reports of a shooting.
“We have information that indicates the person waited for him to come out, get in the car, and as soon as he got in the car he was shot,” Streck said.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has not identified the victim yet, but a flood of Facebook posts identified the victim as Darnell Pate.
News Center 7 has confirmed that the victim worked as a police officer for a handful of local agencies.
A law enforcement source also indicated he attended Edison State Peace Officer Academy.
Streck said this kind of violence was not a spur-of-the-moment, nor an emotional reaction.
“We 100% believe this was a targeted attack,” Streck said.
The Sheriff’s Office does not know the motive for this attack at this time the sheriff said but we are working on it.
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (937) 225-4357.
