5 Arrested After Theft At North Austin Shopping Center
NORTH AUSTIN, TX Dec 5 2017— Five people have been charged with robbery by assault, with one accused of squirting pepper spray on a store employee during the recent theft of clothing at a North Austin shopping center, according to reports.
According to an arrest affidavit referenced by the Austin American-Statesman, the five suspects stole nearly $3,000 in clothing from the Victoria’s Secret store in the Domain shopping center. Police got the call at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Workers told police four people walked into the store and started inserting a number of items into shopping bags, according to the report.
One employee told police she recognized one of the women from a previous theft at the same store. A man who was with the group is accused of pulling out a can of pepper spray and squirting the liquid on one of the employees before the group fled, the Statesman reported.
Police located the suspects about two hours later at a Chick-fil-A some 10 miles from the mall, according to the affidavit. All were arrested without incident. Police identified the suspects as Diavian Curry, 17; Levi Cleophus Shaw III, 22; Tresor Monet Latin, 18; and Dwona Dnae Murphy, 20. Police also arrested Tunsia Ann Young, 22, who drove the getaway car, according to the affidavit.
Young and Curry are being held at the Travis County jail with Young’s bond set at $20,000 and Curry’s bond set at $15,000, as of this weekend. Shaw is also at Travis County jail without a bond set. Jail records indicate Latin and Murphy were no longer in custody as of Saturday evening.
