Erie Police Mourn Officer who Died after Suffering Medical Emergency while on Duty
Erie PA Aug 13 2018 The Erie Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Michael Conway, a 19-year veteran of the force.
Conway was at work Saturday in the police station at Erie City Hall when he became suddenly ill, according to a statement from Police Chief Dan Spizarny.
Police called for an ambulance for someone in cardiac arrest just before 7 p.m. Officer Conway was transported to UPMC Hamot, where he died.
Conway was 46-years-old and had served the Erie Police Department for more than 19 years.
“He will be greatly missed by his family and friends,” said Spizarny.
Conway was serving as the security officer on duty when he fell ill. The officer in charge said no one was detained in the police “lockup” at the time.
The police chief expects to announce further details at a later time.
At about 11:34 p.m., police dispatchers observed a sad tradition, calling several times for badge number 334 over the police scanner frequency, and noting that it was the final time Officer Conway’s badge number would be called after 19 years of service.
