Security, store customers detain man “peeping” into girls dressing room
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah Aug 20 2018 A man was arrested Saturday after he was chased down by the mother of a 12-year-old girl. She claims he was caught spying on her in a dressing room of a local store.
Police were called around 7:30 p.m. to the Rue 21 located at 1140 Brickyard Road by Doris Stiles-Scown, the mother of the girl who caught 36-year-old Jorge Leon-Alfaro allegedly looking at her daughter while she was trying on clothes.
She chased the man out of the store and into the parking lot as she called police. Security officers and others helped detain the man until police arrived.
“Certainly getting police on the way as fast as you can is the right thing to do. We want to identify these individuals when stuff like this happens,” said Det. Greg Wilking with Salt Lake City Police Department.
The entire incident was caught by the girls mother on video that has quickly spread across social media. The video reached nearly 4 million views on Facebook as of Sunday evening.
In the video, Stiles-Scown said, “What you did to her…you’re going to leave a scar on my daughter permanently.”
Det. Wilking said police had enough evidence on-scene to arrest Leon-Alfaro on voyeurism charges, but would not disclose details on what the evidence was.
He emphasized the suspect is still innocent until proven guilty in court.
“It’s very understandable she’s (Stiles-Scown) upset. The thing to remember about this is there is a criminal process to this and perhaps until waiting until the charges come is the better way to release something like that (in regards to posting the video online),” said Det. Wilking.
