Hot Springs Dress Barn Employee Charged In $4000 Theft
Hot Springs ARK Sept 2 2018 An employee of a local clothing store was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing over $4,000 from the business over a period of two months.
Tanya Ellisa Jordan, 59, who lists a Higdon Ferry Road address, was taken into custody at the Dress Barn, 309 Cornerstone Blvd., around 10:30 a.m. and charged with theft of property, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison.
Jordan was later released on $2,500 bond and is set to appear Sept. 11 in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, at around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday Hot Springs police Officer 1st Class Rod West responded to Dress Barn in reference to a theft involving an employee.
The loss prevention employee, Jeffrey Aldinger, said he had received a phone call in July from the home office advising that cash deposits were missing on several days.
He said that, from July 5 to Aug. 23, he noticed that one employee, identified as Jordan, signed the deposit log on several occasions.
Aldinger said he also discovered that on several of those days Jordan took the deposit to the bank, but there was no record of the deposit from the bank. A total of 20 deposits totaling $4,005.83 were reportedly missing.
Aldinger and the store’s district leader confronted Jordan at the store about the missing funds and she reportedly admitted to keeping the deposits on several occasions and removing $300 from the cash drawer on Monday.
In an interview with Detective Les Jessup, Jordan reportedly admitted to taking the cash and checks from the listed deposits and said the checks were at her residence.
