Man shot when security guard’s gun ‘accidentally’ fires in scuffle
AUSTIN TX Sept 15 2018 A man was shot in downtown Austin Friday, after a security guard’s gun “accidentally” fired, according to Amy Jackson, the director of development at Caritas Austin.
Jackson says it began as a scuffle between a security guard and one of the diners at their community kitchen.
One person has been apprehended, police said.
Medics treated the man with a gunshot wound and two others who were hurt, but not shot, in the 600 block of Neches Street — between Trinity and Red River streets.
All three were taken to the hospital. The shooting happened around 12:34 p.m., police say. It’s unknown if the man who was hurt was the security guard, the diner or someone else.
The injured man has non-life threatening injuries, according to Austin police.
The community kitchen will close Monday and Tuesday to allow police to investigate and so staff can review protocol.
