Man died after attempting to kidnap child
Greensboro MD Sept 18 2018
A Greensboro, Maryland, man died of unknown causes on Friday, Sept. 15 after attempting to flee from police during an alleged child abduction, according to a Maryland State Police press release.
Just after 7 p.m. on Friday, a Greensboro police officer was dispatched to Sunset Avenue, where there was a report of an adult male, later identified as 19-year-old Antone Black of Greensboro, dragging a 12-year-old boy down the street.
The officer saw Black forcibly restraining the child, prompting him to exit his vehicle and instruct Black to release the boy, according to the release.
As Black let the child go, the officer asked if they were related. The boy yelled they were not related while Black told the officer they were brothers. The officer instructed Black to place his hands behind his head, state police said.
The boy was reunited with his parents after the incident, state police said.
Black told the officer that he loved him and then immediately fled the scene, causing the officer to pursue the man on foot, along with two other officers who had arrived on the scene, according to the release.
The foot pursuit ended at Black’s home in a trailer park in the 13,000 block of Greensboro Drive in Greensboro. Black jumped into the driver’s seat of his vehicle, parked next to the trailer, state police said.
Black attempted to exit the vehicle and the officer deployed his Taser. Black continued to flee the scene as he was met by two other officers and a civilian who attempted to restrain him.
Black resisted, biting two of the police officers and the civilian. He also struck one of the officers in the face, according to the release.
Black’s parents were standing in the doorway, telling Black to stop struggling and to comply with the officers, according to the release.
After several minutes of attempting to calm him down without the use of hand strikes or police equipment, the officers placed Black in handcuffs and ankle restraints.
Black began showing signs of medical distress, prompting officers to call for an ambulance. They then administered Narcan, a medication used to treat a narcotic overdose, and performed CPR.  EMS providers arrived and transported Black to Easton Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to the release.
Autopsy results from Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore did not reveal a cause of death, and no significant injuries were noted by the pathologist.  At this time the cause and manner of death, additional testing of vital organs and toxicology results are all listed as pending, according to the release.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is investigation the incident, reviewing body camera footage and interviewing witnesses.
Troopers from the Easton Barrack and the Maryland State Homicide Unit, Caroline County State’s Attorney, the Greensboro Police Department, the Ridgely Police Department and deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.
