Armed suspect hurt in early-morning struggle with game room security guard
Honolulu HI Sept 26 2018
Honolulu police said an armed suspect who threatened a man at a suspected Kalihi game room early this morning was disarmed in a scuffle in which the gun discharged.
There were no gunshot injuries, but the suspect was taken to a hospital in serious condition after an altercation with a security guard.
Police said the incident began at about 3:25 a.m. when the 26-year-old male suspect, armed with a pistol, threatened another man at the game room at Ohana Grocery, 1104 Palama St.
The two men fought and the firearm discharged twice but no one was hit.
Police said a male security guard fought with man. It was unclear if the guard was the man who was initially threatened.
Emergency Medical Services personnel treated the suspect, who sustained multiple head and face injuries in the altercation, and took him to a hospital in serious condition.
Officers recovered the weapon at the scene and arrested the suspect on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree reckless endangering and three counts of firearm-related offenses.
Officers closed Palama Street, between North King Street and Lopez Lane, and Kanoa Street around 4 a.m. as they investigated. All streets were reopened by about 7:15 a.m.
