Security guard at Lady Lake internet cafe arrested for felon with gun
Sumter County FL October 11 2018 A security guard at a Lady Lake internet cafe was arrested after law enforcement received an anonymous tip.
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies went shortly after 8 p.m. Monday to Largos Internet Café on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake and arrested 48-year-old George Willie Brown, of Leesburg, after receiving an anonymous tip that Brown is a convicted felon. Deputies found Brown sitting by the front door of the internet cafe and discovered he had a loaded .38-caliber Taurus gun in a holster, according to an arrest report. The gun contained five live rounds of ammunition. A check revealed Brown had 11 previous felony convictions.
Brown claimed he had taken all the classes required to become a security guard and he had filed the documentation “in order to regain his rights, which was under review,” a deputy wrote in the arrest report.
“The defendant advised he assumed his right to bear arms was reinstated due to him receiving his weapons training and getting hired by Largos Internet Café,” the deputy wrote.
He was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $12,000 bond.
