COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC October 17 2018 A North Carolina State Trooper is dead Wednesday morning following a shooting.

According to Larry Guyton with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place just south of Whiteville on Highway 701 early Wednesday morning.

The suspect was then surrounded in the woods near Fair Bluff by officers from multiple agencies.

Police said that the suspect was taken into custody around 4 a.m.

There are no further details.
