San Bernardino shoplifter charged with attempted murder after shooting at security officer
San Bernardino County CA October 29 2018
A man and a woman were arrested Thursday, Oct. 25, after he fired a gun outside a Winco market in Apple Valley as they tried to escape with items loaded into a baby carrier that had a 6-month-old inside, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Charles Jenard Scott Jr., 24, and Latoya Moore, 21, both of Hesperia, were in custody. Moore initially was “being less than truthful on what her name is,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller said.
Scott was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery and child endangerment after being hospitalized for treatment of injuries suffered in a fight with store security. Moore was booked on suspicion of robbery and child endangerment.
One female employee was grazed by gunfire but declined treatment, Miller said.
A video shot by the Victor Valley News shows a man handcuffed with a bandage around his head and a woman handcuffed.
The crime happened about noon after the man and woman entered the store at 19047 Bear Valley Road. The woman placed items in a baby carrier that had a female infant inside, Miller said.
The pair attempted to leave the store without paying and were confronted by store security. The man then pulled out a gun and fired, and he and a security guard fought before the guard detained him, Miller said.
The woman ran through the parking lot, carrying the baby. Store security stopped her as well. The baby was hospitalized as a precaution, Miller said.
A gun was recovered.
