Banned Louis Mall Customer Attacks Security Guard
JOLIET, IL November 3 2018Â – A 21-year-old woman remains in the Will County Jail in connection with last weekend’s arrest at the Louis Joliet Mall. Jaylyssia Burks faces two counts of aggravated battery and one count of criminal trespass to real property. Burks is accused of attacking a mall security guard in the parking lot near Mall Loop Drive.
Burks already knew she was forbidden from setting foot on the Louis Joliet Mall property, court documents indicate. Still, Burks “knowingly entered the land of another, Louis Joliet Mall … after receiving, prior to such entry, notice from the owner’s agent, that such entry is forbidden,” her criminal complaint reads.
Her arrest by the Joliet Police Department occurred last Saturday, Oct. 27. Court documents state that she “knowingly and without legal justification made physical contact” with “a private security guard engaged in the performance of his duties in that said defendant scratched (the man) about his head.”
Her second aggravated battery charge accuses Burks of attacking the mall security guard in the parking lot of Mall Loop Drive where “said defendant scratched (the victim) about the body,” the complaint states.
Will County Jail records show that Burks has remained in custody all week, unable to come up with 10 percent of her $20,000 bail. Jail records list her address as being in Forest City, Iowa, however, it’s clear that she has strong ties to the Joliet area nowadays.
Last November, Joliet’s Herald-News print newspaper reported that Burks was arrested by Joliet Police officers on charges of attacking her boyfriend at a hotel on McDonough Street. That article indicated she lived on North Hickory Street.
