2 women are facing charges following Quincy College pepper spray incident
Quincy MA November 4 2018
Two women were arrested on multiple charges Wednesday night after police say they sprayed pepper spray in a Quincy College building, causing students to become sick and a hazmat team to be called in.
Hannah Craig, 18, of Lambert Street in Medford, and Samani Freeman, 19, of Cummings Highway in Mattapan, were arrested and charged with two counts each of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, disturbance of school or public meeting, noxious/filthy substance in a building, and disorderly conduct, Quincy police said.
Police were called to the scene at 1250 Hancock St., unit 325, just after 5:30 p.m. for a woman having difficulty breathing and pain on the right side of her body, according to police.
The city’s fire department was already treating someone when other victims said they were experiencing similar symptoms — breathing difficulty, itchy skin, dizziness, and coughing.
Police first evacuated just the third floor, but then extended it to the rest of the building.
The Boston Fire Department’s HazMat Team responded and deemed the building safe at 9 p.m. Police detectives plus the college’s security chief watched surveillance footage and saw Craig and Freeman allegedly using the pepper spray in the third floor lounge, police said.
The college announced classes in the building were canceled on Twitter.
Classes were back on schedule on Thursday, the college said on its website.
