Police officer’s toddler dies after accidentally shooting himself
CAMDEN, Ark. November 12 2018 A three-year-old boy is dead after he accidentally shot himself with a pistol, police say. The child’s father– an officer at the Camden Police Department.
CPD says it’s still in shock after the incident, which happened Thursday afternoon. While an investigation is underway, CPD says it’s offering support and prayers to the boy’s father.
Thursday afternoon, Officer Alec Faulkner was on duty, when he received a call to his very own home– his worst nightmare coming true.
“Officer Faulkner’s son somehow did receive a fatal injury,” Dana Wetherbee, with CPD said.
Officer Faulkner’s wife, Jessica Faulkner, told police she was home alone with the couple’s only child. She briefly left the toddler to go to the bathroom– then, she heard the gunshot.
Police say she found her child laying on the floor in a bedroom, with a gunshot wound to his head. According to CPD, it appears the toddler found a loaded pistol and accidentally shot himself. First responders arrived on scene and transported the boy to the ER where he was pronounced dead.
“It’s just a tragic loss for the family and for our family– our CPD family,” Wetherbee added.
CPD says in a press release that it’s offering support to its fellow officer and his wife at this time.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the Faulkner family,” Chief of Police Boyd Woody said in a press release.
The Arkansas State Police is leading the investigation of the incident. CPD tells KATV no one is facing charges at this time.
