Gang member charged with church shooting during funeral
PUEBLO, Colo. November 11 2018 Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man they say opened fire in the parking lot of a church during a funeral.
Arrest papers say 26 year old Leonard Rodriguez got in a fight in the parking lot of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pueblo Thursday morning.
Deputies say a family in a black car parked,4 kids got out of the car, but a man and woman stayed behind so the woman could fix her makeup. They said that was when the white car screeched to a halt right next to their car.
Witnesses said the man in the black car got out, and got in a fight with the man in the white car. Deputies learned the victim in the black car identified the man in the white car as Rodrigez, who he said is a gang member.
No one was shot, but a couple of punches were thrown before deputies say Rodriguez grabbed his gun.
Officers found 9 bullet casings on the ground. Inside the church, the funeral went on, but security took action.
While the white car sped off from the parking lot, deputies were able to track it down.
They say the man who fired the gun in the fight was Leonard Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was found, arrested, and charged him with attempted murder as well as other charges.
