Dayton OH security guard indicted for murder
DAYTON OH November 17 2018— A 49-year-old security guard was indicted for murder after he allegedly shot and killed a man outside Ashwood Lounge earlier this month, according to prosecutors.
Steven Coleman, 49, is charged with murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and multiple weapons-related charges.
Coleman is accused of fatally shooting Robert Lee Burdette during a Nov. 7 altercation outside the bar at 3500 N. Main St. in Dayton.
“Another security guard was involved in an altercation with the victim when the defendant punched the victim in the head, then pulled out a .40 caliber handgun and shot the victim in the head,” the prosecutor’s office said in a prepared statement.
Burdette was taken to a local hospital following the shooting, where he died Nov. 10.
The prosecutor’s office said Coleman had previously been convicted in Florida on drug charges, which prohibited him from possessing a gun.
Coleman is in custody and is scheduled to be arraigned next week.
