Chase through Marketplace Mall ends with gun arrest
Henrietta, N.Y. November 20 2018 – Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Rochester man on several charges after chasing him through the parking lot of Marketplace Mall.
Deputies said they recognized Derick Peters, 24, inside the mall Wednesday as a person on probation, who did not have a valid driver’s license, and who had been suspected of carrying a gun.
The deputy who spotted him followed Peters to his vehicle and attempted a traffic stop in the mall parking lot.
Deputies said Peters got out of the driver’s side door and took off on foot. Several deputies eventually caught up with him in the parking lot of another business on West Henrietta Road.
He was taken into custody without incident, according to deputies.
Upon further investigation, the sheriff’s department, with help from Marketplace Mall security, sifted through surveillance footage of Peters at the mall.
Deputies said the video shows Peters throwing an unknown object into the grass during the chase
The K-9 team of Deputy Chris Bell and K-9 partner Dyno did a search and found a loaded handgun.
Peters is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, Obstructing Governmental Administration and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st charges.
