University of North Carolina-Charlotte student charged with murder

A UNC Charlotte student is among three suspects police charged with murder in the shooting of a 21-year-old man during a robbery at an apartment complex south of campus, a university spokeswoman confirmed to The Charlotte Observer Friday night.
Javon Daniel Alim Sherwood was pronounced dead about 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 1, in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 8700 block of Autumn Lake Court, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. That’s at the Belle Haven Apartments off Old Concord Road near East W.T. Harris Boulevard, in the University area.
One of the suspects, 18-year-old Keith Bryson Powell, attends UNCC, university spokeswoman Buffie Stephens said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Powell without incident in his dorm room at Hunt Hall on the UNCC campus late this week, WSOC-TV reported.
Powell was jailed shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday on charges of first-degree murder, felonious restraint and robbery with a dangerous weapon, jail records show. The jail lists his address as Jamestown, a town in Guilford County.
Friday morning, police arrested 23-year-old Khalil Dante Capers of Charlotte on charges of murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with Sherwood’s killing, according to a CMPD news release.
On Wednesday, police charged 25-year-old Yocouba Poppy Meite of Charlotte, with murder, felonious restraint, robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana.
