Security Guards Shot Man 20 Times-Charged With Murder
Dallas TX January 2 2019
Police say that two security guards acted reckless and without legal justification when they fired 22 rounds into a pick-up, killing a man.
Now, the two security guards face murder charges after the Dallas nightclub patron was shot over 20 times as he tried to flee a bar fight.
Jason Hill, 34, was in his white pickup trying to leave the parking lot outside XTC Cabaret when he was killed shortly before 3 a.m., Dallas police spokeswoman Tamika Dameron said.
Eric Hansen, 27, and Daterrious Haggard, 25, were questioned after the shooting and arrested on charges of murder, police said.
Video from the parking lot, near Regal Row and Intersate 35E, shows several security guards and bystanders trying to help an unresponsive person lying on the ground behind Hill’s pickup.
As they gathered around the person, Hill’s pickup begins backing out of its parking spot, and a woman yells, “Don’t let them leave!”
Another woman jumped behind the truck to stop it from backing out and injuring the person on the ground, but she was knocked aside by the security guards.
The security guards then gathered around the truck and drew their guns as Hill attempted to leave.
Hansen said he opened fire when he was hit by the front bumper of the truck, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit. Haggard followed suit, and they continued shooting after they were behind the truck and no longer in danger of being run over, the warrant says.
A total of 22 shots were captured on video, ending only when Hill crashed into several vehicles and came to a stop.
Hill died at the scene.
