Employee shoots and kills man inside Pinville NC mall
PINEVILLE, N.C. January 14 2019 Pineville police said one person is dead from a gunshot wound following a dispute inside a store at the Carolina Place Mall.
According to WSOC, the shooting happened Sunday afternoon between a store employee and someone who came into the store starting a confrontation.
One person was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Officers said the shooter was taken into custody shortly after the incident, according to WSOC.
He has since been arrested according to Pineville police.
The upper, west side of the mall will be shut down for several more hours as the investigation continues, officials told WSOC.
The shooting happened at the DTLR store in the mall, just a few minutes after the mall opened at noon Sunday, police said. DTLR sells athletic and “urban lifestyle” clothing and shoes for men, women and children, according to its website.
The victim walked into DTLR and got into a physical fight with the employee before the shooting, police said. Investigators believe there may have been an “ongoing dispute” before the fight Sunday.
Guns and “illegal weapons” are not allowed at Carolina Place Mall, according to the mall’s Code of Conduct. Police say they’re trying to find out how the employee had a gun, WBTV reported.
The victim and suspect have not been identified at this time.
