NC SECURITY OFFICER KILLS ARMED ROBBER
LUMBERTON, N.C. Jan 27 2019— A Lumberton man was shot and killed Thursday night while to trying to hold up a local sweepstakes parlor, authorities said.
Robeson County deputies responded to a robbery and shooting at Lucky Clover Arcade, at 5306 N.C. Highway 72 West, at about 9:45 p.m.
James Locklear, 35, of Pembroke, a manager of the business, was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment and was stabilized, authorities said.
A second shooting victim, later identified as Gerald Lamar Cooper, 30, fled the scene before deputies arrived, but they were able to find him near a wooded area on Journey Road, authorities said. He was taken to Southeastern Medical Center, where he died of his wounds.
Investigators said Cooper fired a shot as he tried to get inside the sweepstakes parlor, and a security guard returned fire, wounding Cooper.
