Man fatally shot in head during argument outside Charlotte area hospital, police say
Concord NC Feb 7 2019 A man was shot in the head while fighting with someone he knew in the parking lot of Carolinas HealthCare System-Northeast in Concord on Wednesday afternoon, Concord police said.
Police said they took a person into custody but announced no charges as of Wednesday evening.
Police identified the man who was shot as Damon Fard Bruce of Concord.
Bruce was shot at about 1 p.m. near the emergency room entrance, according to police.
Cabarrus County paramedics were in the nearby ambulance bay of the hospital and took Bruce into the hospital, “where staff continued care,” according to a Concord police news release. Bruce later died, police said.
“At the moment. there is a heavy police presence and a suspect is being detained,” Concord police tweeted at about 1:15 p.m. “If you are traveling to CMC-Northeast please use an alternate entrance.”
“There is not a threat to the community at this time and the scene is secure,” police tweeted several minutes later.
At about 2 p.m., police tweeted that the suspect and victim know each other “and this is not a random act.”
A CPD representative will brief the media shortly at 70 Lake Concord Road. Initial information is that the victim and suspect are known to each other and this is not a random act. /kee
Police confirmed at a news conference that the person who was shot died, Observer news partner WBTV reported.
In its news release later Wednesday, police said they were “still reviewing all available evidence in this case and interviewing witnesses.”
Carolinas HealthCare System-NorthEast is in the 900 block of Church Street North.
