Guam security officer charged with drug crimes
GUAM Feb 14 2019 The 31-year-old man arrested Feb. 5 on allegations of importing marijuana leaves and seeds into Guam was employed by the Homeland Security and Emergency Management office of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
According to a report obtained by The Guam Daily Post, Brien Sers Nicholas Jr. is the grants manager and lead planner for the CNMI Homeland Security office.
The office of CNMI Gov. Ralph Torres and the CNMI Homeland Security Office did not respond to a request for comment.
Nicholas arrived at the A.B. Won Pat International Airport on a United Airlines flight from Honolulu on Feb. 5.
Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency officers were conducting drug interdiction with a K-9 team in the baggage claim area. A drug-detector dog went on alert when Nicolas approached and that led to an inspection of his baggage.
Inside, according to court documents, Customs officers reportedly discovered green leafy substances concealed inside plastic containers, wrapped with dryer sheets, sealed inside resealable plastic bags and placed inside hygiene bags.
Glass vials containing a yellowish liquid, suspected to be tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the active compound in cannabis, was discovered inside a black resealable bag. Another couple of vials containing a yellowish liquid suspected to be THC were discovered inside a pair of khaki shorts, court documents state.
Nicholas was charged with importation of a controlled substance as a first-degree felony and possession of a controlled substance on board an aircraft.
