McHenry County court security officers find pills, Ecstasy in 18-year-old’s sock

An Algonquin man was freed on bond Thursday after police said he tucked a bag of drugs into his sock while going through court security.
McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 18-year-old James T. Conti on Wednesday afternoon at the McHenry County Courthouse after he allegedly tried to get through security with Ecstasy and Xanax, sheriff’s deputy Sandra Rogers said.
Conti, of the 400 block of Clover Drive, Algonquin, is charged in a two-count criminal complaint with possession of a controlled substance. The offense is a felony typically punishable by as many as three years in prison.
It was not clear why Conti was entering the courthouse Wednesday. He has no previous criminal charges in McHenry County, public records show.
Police said they have found Conti in possession of fewer than 15 grams of Ecstasy and six pills containing alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax, according to the complaint.
Conti made a brief court appearance at the McHenry County Jail on Thursday morning before posting bond.
McHenry County Judge Robert Zalud appointed the public defender’s office to represent Conti. The attorney handling his case, Assistant Public Defender Grant Tucker, declined to comment Thursday afternoon.
His next court date is scheduled for March 14.
