4 people in custody after high speed chase ends in Moore
NORMAN, Okla. July 3 2017 Norman Police say a Walmart theft lead to a police chase Sunday afternoon.
According to officials, Walmart security notified the Norman Police Department of a theft, stating that the subjects had stolen over 1800 dollars worth of televisions. Walmart security provided a description of the subject’s vehicle to police.
Officers later spotted the described vehicle at W. Robinson Street and N. Flood Avenue. The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but say the vehicle continued to flee on N. Flood.
A spokeswoman for Norman police reported that officers terminated the pursuit, just north of Indian Hills Rd. on I-35, and Oklahoma Highway Patrol took over around 3:15 p.m .
OHP officials say the responding trooper decided to use a tactical maneuver to end the pursuit, once the fleeing vehicle reached speeds of 120 mph and reportedly tried to hit a Norman police patrol car.
The pursuit ended near SW 4th Street in Moore.
OHP and Norman PD say 4 people were taken into custody for grand larceny and eluding police. 3 of the 4 were arrested for outstanding felony warrants out of Oklahoma County.
