64-year-old man arrested for assaulting library security guard with his own baton
FRESNO, California March 3 2019– A 64-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking a Fresno County Public Library security guard on Wednesday, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Warren Vesper of Fresno is accused of assaulting the guard with his own baton in downtown Fresno at N and Mariposa streets around 7 p.m.
He struck the guard several times before he was pepper sprayed by assisting guards, the sheriff’s office says.
Vesper then fled to the men’s restroom, barricading himself inside. The sheriff’s office crisis negotiation team arrived and was able to calm Vesper, and he walked out of the restroom.
He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.
