Parents tackle sex offender who tried to kidnap 2 small children at park, police say
Lake Elsinore CA March 14 2019
A family tackled a registered sex offender and held him down until police arrived after he tried to abduct two little boys at a California park on Monday, police said.
The suspect, Marcus DeWitt, 29, initially tried to grab a 3-year-old boy by the arm while the child was playing at the Rosetta Canyon Sports Park, according to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station.
Fortunately, the playground equipment blocked him from taking the child.
After that failed attempt, police said Dewitt picked up a 4-year-old boy and tried to run away with him.
The boy’s parents and other family members immediately jumped into action and caught up with DeWitt, wrestling the child out of his arms. DeWitt tried to flee the scene again but was tackled and subdued until officers arrived.
He was arrested and booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center on attempted kidnapping charges.
Police said neither child was injured during the incident. Both are safe with their respective families.
