Unarmed Security Unable to Intervene in 3 Shootings
Charlotte NC March 20 2019
There have been three incidents in the past week where unarmed security officers could do little to stop an active shooter, an attempted homicide and a shooting at a shopping mall.
Police in Casper Wyoming are still talking about how a shooting at a hospital could have been so much worse after a man snuck into the rear of the hospital and began man firing several shots inside the medical center.
Police report now that the entered through a back security door while under the influence of LSD and that hospital security were unarmed and could not challenge him.
Police quickly arrived and located 20-year-old Mitchell Taylor at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper and was able to take him into custody.
Taylor is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, property damage and use of a firearm while committing a felony.
Police say Taylor fired several rounds from a 9 mm handgun at two employees around 1 a.m. before he was arrested in a tunnel beneath the hospital.
Little Rock police said a man involved in an altercation with a woman and two men Saturday almost turned deadly when that man pulled a handgun and began firing.
A security officer ran to assist the victims but was unarmed and became a victim himself being shot once in the leg.
The shooter has not been apprehended yet. The security officer only received a minor injury.
Tulsa police said today that they are investigating a gun battle outside Woodland Hills Mall.
Police were called at around 7 p.m. Monday, by mall security and several shoppers reporting gunfire at the mall in south Tulsa.
When police arrived, a total of 15 shell casings were found, some in the parking lot and others near an entrance.
Officials say a car was hit by gunfire, as well as a wall and the glass door at one entrance.
“People started running away from that door so we thought we’d walk out the other way. As soon as security blocked off that door, we ended up going out the Dillard’s way,” said Donovan Houlian, was was inside the mall during the incident. “It was a little chaotic inside for a little bit.”
Police say they are working to obtain surveillance video and that at this time, the suspects are not in custody.
Mall security officers are not armed at this shopping center.
