Lynchburg, Danville, Roanoke ranked among least safe cities in Virginia
LYNCHBURG, Va. April 12 2019 A home security firm’s research on Virginia’s 2019 safest cities finds the crime rate is below nationwide averages.
Virginia also did well in regard to property crime. The national rate is 27.11, and Virginia reported 25.67 property crimes per 1,000, according to safewise.
The top two safest cities are Bridgewater and Berryville, according to the study, which only reported one violent crime each, but only have a combined population of around 11,000 people.
In the whole state, the study showed that violent crime was limited to 3.14 incidents per 1,000, compared to the national average of 4.49.

#24: Vinton – population of around 8,200 with a violent crime rate of 1.58 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 26.81 per 1,000.
#25: Bedford – population of around 6,600 with a violent crime rate of 2.27 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 35.34 per 1,000.
#40: Pulaski – population of around 8,800 with a violent crime rate of 2.5 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 29.78 per 1,000.
#43: Martinsville – population of around 13,400 with a violent crime rate of 2.99 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 29.52 per 1,000.
#50: Rocky Mount – population of around 4,800 with a violent crime rate of around 3.33 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 35.41 per 1,000.
#53: Lynchburg – population of around 81,000 with a violent crime rate of 3.55 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 23.32 per 1,000.
#57: Radford – population of around 17,700 with a violent crime rate of 3.85 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 13.43 per 1,000.
#60: Roanoke – population of around 100,000 with a violent crime rate of 4.02 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 44.92 per 1,000.
#65: South Boston – population of around 8,000 with a violent crime rate of 4.67 per 1,000 and property crime rate of 37.63 per 1,000.
