Man headbutted school security officer, battled officers while at wrestling event
East Pennsboro Township PA April 12 2019
A man was taken away from an East Pennsboro High School wrestling event after police said he became unruly, including assaulting a school resource officer.
Lamont Maddox, 40, of Harrisburg, was asked to leave the school on March 10 after someone reported smelling like marijuana, East Pennsboro Township police said.
Maddox refused to leave and school police officers tried to stop him from going into the gym where a wrestling event was going on, police said.
When police arrived shortly after 2p.m., a large crowd was in front of the gymnasium, with uniformed school police pointing out Maddox as the unruly visitor.
Police describe two assaults to officers during the course of their efforts to detain Maddox:
At one point, Maddox attempted to punch an officer that was trying to keep him from the gym, hitting the officer in the chest, police said.
After being detained, police said Maddox lunged at a school police officer in an aggressive manner, and ended up head-butting the officer in the nose, police said.
Maddox was escorted to the back of a police car, but required several officers to control him and get him into the vehicle, police said.
Court dockets show Maddox was charged with aggravated assault, criminal trespass, defiant trespass, simple assault, resisting arrest and two summary offenses.
Maddox was arraigned on March 10, and released after posting a bond for his $20,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24.
