Chicago security officer shoots armed man

A man who police initially said was fatally shot during a confrontation with a security guard Tuesday in East Garfield Park is actually still alive in critical condition.
The 25-year-old was approaching a residence at 12:35 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Madison Street when he was confronted by the guard, according to Chicago police.
He pulled out a gun during the confrontation, at which point the guard shot him in the right ear, police said.
The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is in critical condition. Police had initially reported that he was pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon.
Responding officers recovered both guns at the scene, police said.
Police said the guard, a 53-year-old man, is not being questioned in connection with the shooting. Area North detectives are investigating.
