Woman charged after allegedly biting security guard while shoplifting
THUNDER BAY Canada May 1 2019 – A Thunder Bay woman is facing multiple charges after attempting to steal alcohol and allegedly biting a security guard who attempted to place her under arrest.
According to a Thunder Bay Police Service media release, officers responded to a report of shoplifting and assault at Walmart on Memorial Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
A woman attempted to steal beer from the store and when a security guard intervened it is alleged that she bit his hand.
The woman was arrested at the scene and claimed she was unable to speak or understand English. It was only after all efforts to communicate with the woman, including the use of translators and Google Translate that the woman spoke with officers in English.
After finally speaking with officers, the woman provided a fake name and made a false accusation of a kidnapping incident.
Police have charged 20-year-old Annika Rose George of Thunder Bay with assault, theft under $5,000, obstructing a peace officer, and public mischief by providing a false statement.
George made a court appearance on Monday and was released with conditions to appear on a future date.
