Bartonville crossing guard honored for 67 years of service to community

A Bartonville crossing guard was honored for 67 years of service to Oak Grove School District and his community.
Gerald Beckette was recognized in the Illinois House on Tuesday. He spent many of his years of service as a crossing guard, in addition to other roles.
“This month, Gerald retires. My heartfelt thanks to Gerald for serving his community in such a vital but unsung role,” said state Rep. Mike Unes (R-East Peoria), who invited Beckette to the House.
Beckette is celebrating his 85th birthday next week.
