Man suspected of breaking into Esplanade Mall 10 times arrested, Kenner police say
KENNER, La. May 10 2019
According to Kenner police, there have been 10 burglaries at Esplanade Mall since February.
The break-in spree came to an end early Tuesday morning after the suspect was caught in the act, according to police.
A mall security guard spotted Hoa Mai breaking into two businesses in the mall, according to the report.
Police said Mai has been charged with two counts of simple burglary.
Police said based on additional evidence upon searching his vehicle, he is expected to be charged with the other eight burglaries based on the similarities of method of operation and time frame.
Police said surveillance video back in March showed the suspect wandering through a closed store, grabbing a pair of sunglasses.
Kenner police said after the fourth burglary they got with mall management and secured some areas that were being left open.
They are also looking into whether or not a door may have been left open overnight.
“We haven’t been able to determine how this individual is entering the mall once he gets inside he will either cut the lock on the gates to the business in the mall or cut through the gate itself,” said Kenner police Public Information Officer Michael Cunningham.
